The Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum (PIEAM) is located at 7th Street and Alamitos Avenue in the East Village Arts District of Long Beach, California. The district lies in the eastern half of downtown Long Beach, within the borders of Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach Boulevard, 10th Street and Alamitos Avenue. The East Village offers an eclectic mix of artist lofts, high-rise condos, and a wide array of cultures, coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants and galleries. A central feature of the Arts District is the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA), which focuses on post-World War II contemporary artists from Latin America.

PIEAM is situated on a triangular piece of land bordered by 7th Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, and Alamitos Avenue; it is, appropriately, an island. The mural design on the exterior of the PIEAM building, created by Long Beach native and famed muralist Art Mortimer, recreates a traditional Men’s House from the Island of Yap, one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia. Mortimer’s impressive resume and long history in painting murals throughout Southern California made him the obvious choice for this project. Many of his murals can be seen at www.artmortimer.com.

The museum also showcases the diverse cultures from the Pacific who call this area home, including the Marshallese, Samoans, Chamorro, Fijian, Carolinian, Tongan, Micronesian, Hawaiian, the Ni-Vanuatu, Niuean, Tuvauluan, Maori, Polynesian, Papuan, Austronesian, Nauruan, Melanesian, Palauan, the I-Kiribati and many more distinct nationalities.

PIEAM’s mission is to generate interest in these diverse cultures and educate its varied audiences by bringing the beauty and culture of Pacific Island ethnic art to Southern California. PIEAM stays true to the heritage of the Pacific Islands, highlighting all forms of Pacific Island ethnic art.

White Wash, the documentary, is a film exploring the complexity of race in America through the eyes of the ocean. Examining the history of “black consciousness” as it triumphs and evolves into the minds of black surfers, we learn the power of transcending race as a constructive phenomenon. The story is narrated by the legendary, Grammy Award winner Ben Harper (Fistful of Mercy, Relentless 7, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals) along with Tariq “Blackthought” Trotter of the Grammy Award winning hip hop group, The Roots whom also originally scored the film.

Whether you prefer to travel by plane, boat, or train, the tokidoki characters will take you around the world with this playful palette. The collection of eye shadows are infused with hydrating Japanese rice lipids and vitamin B to ensure the rich formulas glide on beautifully smooth and provide long-lasting color. The collectable tin suitcase is adorned with Passport print—bright pastels, diverse characters, and iconic monuments from London to Tokyo, and a large keychain fob of the always sweet and sprinkled, Donutella.

I am really loving this passport print! A plus is when your make-up is gone the collectible tin is reusable. If you love it too, go to www.sephora.com to get yours now!

So I don’t know much about the Super Bowl or football but I had a great afternoon at my brother’s girlfriends house and she had these awesome drinking cups. Why didn’t I think of this myself?

They are great ice breakers at parties, doubles as a name tag, reduces waste and cuts down on the spreading of germs. You can get these cups in red or frost at www.etch-it.com they also have round and rectangle labels you can stick on anything and you can reuse them.

Super cute and I really like and new sizes and shapes. They are offering large, medium and small cross body bags and a wallet too! I think the prices are more reasonable and allow all tokidoki fans to by a large or small piece for their collection.

There are so many reasons why Dr. King personally inspires me. I am the product of an interracial and multicultural marriage. When my parents got married there were still anti miscegenation laws on the books in some states in the USA. I had the gift of rich culture and enormous pride given to me by both my parents. As a small child I was carefree and thought all people were kind and good. It was not till I grew up and lived all over the US and in two other countries that I realized that the world is a big place and there are all types of people in it. Dr. King’s mission and dedication to making the world a place for all people to live in harmony still rings true today. We have a lot of work to do. Here are some of my favorite Dr. King quotes and images. Happy Birthday, Dr. King!

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”

Jamie & Stephiee are super nice and have super cute taste so I am sure there is a treasure or two, or three to be found! Bring cash for the garage sale. The Grilled Cheese truck will also be there to support this great event.

Update: I was so so so glad that I decided to go to this sale! I got some AMAZING deals that I never would have imagined I would get my hands on. I met some really cool people and I have some treasures to share with my daughter, sister and niece mainly for my sister, Jessica’s Harajuku Lover’s themed baby shower. My haul included a tokidoki bag, hello kitty and twin stars goodies, tons of decora items and jewelry. I also bought a pachinko machine for my hubby a super rare find! Thanks Jamie and Stephiee for all the super cute stuff!
