Ia Orana! This Saturday ALOHA HULA Polynesian Dance Studio in Granada Hills on 17634 Chatsworth Street, Granada Hills, CA 91344,will be offering an exercise class more specifically a low impact workout using Tahitian dance steps. This will be a great workout and a great way to get in extra practice on technique if you are a current Tahitian dancer.

The class will be 1 hour. If you are an Aloha Hula member cost will be $6 per class. If you want to bring a friend who just wants a good workout- their cost is $10 for the hour.

The age group for this is 16 and above. Wear comfortable clothes, hair up, bring a sarong/pareu and water.

I was excited to read on the tokidoki FaceBook page that they are releasing two new styles of bags called Ramblers! Of course my favorite character is on the Aloha Hawaii travel logo! Super cute and I really like and new sizes and shapes. They are offering large, medium and small cross body bags and a wallet too! I think the prices are more reasonable and allow all tokidoki fans to by a large or small piece for their collection.

There are so many reasons why Dr. King personally inspires me. I am the product of an interracial and multicultural marriage. When my parents got married there were still anti miscegenation laws on the books in some states in the USA. I had the gift of rich culture and enormous pride given to me by both my parents. As a small child I was carefree and thought all people were kind and good. It was not till I grew up and lived all over the US and in two other countries that I realized that the world is a big place and there are all types of people in it. Dr. King’s mission and dedication to making the world a place for all people to live in harmony still rings true today. We have a lot of work to do. Update: I was so so so glad that I decided to go to this sale! I got some AMAZING deals that I never would have imagined I would get my hands on. I met some really cool people and I have some treasures to share with my daughter, sister and niece mainly for my sister, Jessica’s Harajuku Lover’s themed baby shower. My haul included a tokidoki bag, hello kitty and twin stars goodies, tons of decora items and jewelry. I also bought a pachinko machine for my hubby a super rare find! Thanks Jamie and Stephiee for all the super cute stuff!

Healthy snack with an island vibe

I had a co-worker turn me on to these delicious snacks. I am hooked. She brought me Mango, Island Mango and Applie Pie. The Mango was simply heavenly. I could not stop eating it, but I tried to savor each piece as it melted in my mouth. I am saving the other flavors to try tomorrow! They are available online at www.mattsmunchies.com They sell for about $2. I understand they are NOT easy to find in local markets, like Whole Foods or Sprouts but can be found in smaller speciality stores. They are only 35 calories per package, one package equals one serving of fruit. So if you are watching your calories or on Weight Watchers this snack is for you. There is no artificial anything in this snack. It’s also gluten free, kosher, certified organic, certified vegan and 100% yummy in my tummy!!!!!

My adventures in TARGET for the Harajuku mini launch!

It was with great anticipation that I was waiting for the launch of the HARAJUKU MINI clothing line at TARGET stores today. My sister, brother and I went to TARGET at 5am and waited for the store to open at 8am. I know it sounds crazy but when you are a fan you act fanatical! My sister was so excited to get clothes for my niece and nephew. My brother was along for the roller coaster ride to help us reach our goal of getting everything in the store. I really wanted the few bags that were part of the Harajuku Mini line. It was an epic adventure. People started showing up at 7am and you could tell they were there for the same reasons we were.Our friend joined us around 6:30 and by 7:45 am there were about 20 people waiting at the front doors. The doors opened up at 7:59 am and my sister took off like a race horse and I’m not even sure where my brother went. But we all had a mission, to score as much Harajuku Mini items as we could. It was like a crazy game show scene. People were running and trying to figure out where all the displays were located in the store. It was totally wild. Clothes were flying off the racks! Each of us were grabbing clothes and yelling at each other, “here get this” and “hey grab that”! We all had our arms full of stuff and didn’t even really know what we had until we stopped to get a cart.

The frenzy ended around 8:22 and my heart was still racing and pounding so hard. I was able to get all of the items I wanted for Christmas. My sister was also so happy to get all the items she wanted for her two kids (and the baby she is expecting, too). I have to admit although the launch at Target was super fun I think the best part of the whole morning was spending it with my brother and sister singing Christmas carols and sipping hot chocolate in my car.

Japanese Garden Festival

Descanso celebrates Japanese arts, crafts and culture with a weekend of activities for the whole family. The Gardens, from the Courtyard to the Japanese Garden, will be decorated with displays of ikebana, the traditional form of Japanese flower arranging. Activities are free with admission, unless noted.

The weekend gets an early start on Friday with a Sushi-Sake tasting event presented by Patina Restaurant Group. Enjoy the flavors of Japan and sample delectable sushi prepared by Chef Travis Kamiyami paired with amazing sake. $75 per person. Reservations required: (818) 790-3663. In the Courtyard.

Always a crowd favorite, the taiko drummers will perform at noon both Saturday and Sunday in the Under the Oaks Theater.

Yami Yamauchi will create origami on a grand scale at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Using an 8-foot square of paper, he will demonstrate the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Want to try it out yourself? Origami lessons will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Minka. Yami will teach young and old to create beautiful folded paper flowers.
